Caring for our heritage

Mistra Battery restored

The coastal battery at Mistra, formerly also known as Despirasse Battery, was built by the Order of St John between 1714 and 1716 to guard the north-east coast against the invasion of pirates. For some years the company used it as its premises until the new facility was built in Mgiebah. The battery has since been restored and handed back to Government so that it can be used for heritage purposes, which is more fitting for such a historic site.
